Advice for solo women visitor in euro

I am currently 21 and travelling as a solo woman throughout mainly "western" countries. I have as yet had absolutely no problems through travelling alone but I think that this is due to my following a few simple self imposed guidelines based on basic common sense and my previous experiences of travelling both solo and with others. I travelled solo to Europe at the age of 16 and have travelled around my home country of Australia also.

The golden rules for getting through solo travel (personal opinion only of course) are simple:

Try to act as much like a local as possible, it makes you inconspicuous if you feel the slightest bit uncertain about an area or a person, err on the side of caution and maybe go back another day. ask the locals what places to go as well as what places to avoid, and why!

Find out about any different local dress codes or other customs as soon as possible, again be a little bit less conspicuous as a traveller and chances are you won't have trouble.

Take care of your valuables, your passport, money, camera, walkman etc but most of all take care of your body and mind.

Basically travelling alone is just the same as getting around your home city or town, get to know the areas to avoid.... and make sure you DO avoid them! When in doubt error on the side of caution, if the street looks to be a bit dodgy, then wait until you can go there id daylight, or with someone else with you, you can easily meet people to do stuff with if you stay in hostels.
